Our Equipment
CGA's response focus has been and continues to be to respond to Exploration and Production Company oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico. By staying focused on E&P production members and their response needs, CGA equipment is specifically tailored to the types of oil that would be encountered in the various open water environments including offshore, near shore, and to a limited extent inshore response.
CGA's inventory includes specialized mechanical recovery equipment for the environment; open ocean containment booming; aerial and boat spray systems for applying dispersants, insitu-burning of spills and wildlife rehabilitation equipment.
Specifically, the wide variety of equipment includes self-contained Fast Response Portable Skimmer Units (FRUs), Fast Response Vessels (FRVs), inflatable auto boom, and Shallow Water Skimmers (SWS). Our signature piece of equipment is the state-of-the-art HOSS (High-Volume Open Sea Skimmer) Barge, which was uniquely designed for offshore spill containment and recovery, has a 4000 barrel storage capacity, and is located in New Orleans along the Harvey Canal.
Equipment and use
Description
HOSS Barge Skimming extensive, long duration oil spills in a towed configuration. |
CGA-200 consists of a skimming system built into a specially designed barge. Boom is stored on two sides of the barge and launched off the barge stern by a pneumatic reel system. |
Surge Capability (Koseq Arms) The Koseq Rigid Sweeping Arms are available to CGA members through a contract with T&T Marine, Inc. There are 11 sets of Koseq Rigid Sweeping Arms prepositioned in Harvey, Galliano, and Galveston. |
The Koseq Rigid Sweeping Arms are deployed in sets of two (2) on a larger Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) or Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), 200' or larger, crewed in accordance with the manning requirements of the vessel's Certificate of Inspection (COI). A full support crew is provided by T&T Marine to transport, load, and operate the equipment. |
Oceangoing Boom Barge (CGA 300) Oceangoing deck barge containing 25,000 ft of offshore containment boom for immediate deployment. |
CGA 300 is a 180 ft ABS classed and load lined deck barge with 25,000 ft of auto boom loaded on the deck. |
95' Fast Response Vessel Fast Response Vessel designed to rapidly respond to offshore oil spills. The H.I. Rich is located in Leeville, La. Two vessels currently under constuction will be located in Venice, La and Galveston, Tx. |
Vessel is equipped with two (2) 3-brush Lamor side mounted skimmers with 249 barrels of storage. The vessel is designed to operate out to 200 miles with a speed of 22+ knots and is equipped with state of the art, navigation, communications, X-band radar and infrared oil detection systems. Vessel estimated daily recovery capacity (EDRC) is 12,500 bbls/day. |
Aptomar SECurus System Oil Spill Detection & Tracking Technology |
These oil spill detection systems can automatically detect, track, and outline marine oil slicks in real-time across a range of visibility conditions and sea states. |
Dispersant Aerial Application Systems: Airborne Support Incorporated Aerial Dispersant Application Systems |
The use of aircraft for rapid application of dispersant over a large area of water. |
Dispersant Stockpile COREXIT 9500 is used to disperse oil spilled on the sea, thereby minimizing its environmental impact. |
COREXIT 9500 is a high-performance , biodegradable, low toxicity oil spill dispersant that is effective on a wide range of oils, including heavier, more weathered, and emulsified oils. |
Vessel Spray System 1) Disperses small oil spills (typically less than 150 barrels), or 2) where dispersant must be applied to a small specific area, or 3) when aircraft cannot be used, or 4) to test the effectiveness of dispersant on an oil. |
A skid mounted dual pipe spray system utilizing seawater as a carrier for dispersant. |
56' Shallow Water Skimming Vessel Designed for shallow operations. |
56 ft. Self-Propelled Shallow Water Skimmer with two (2) forward mounted 36 inch belt skimmers and 249 bbls storage. |
46' Fast Response Vessels Rapid response oil skimming vessel. Four vessels are prepositioned in Venice, Leeville, Lake Charles, and Galveston. |
A purpose built skimming vessel designed to operate in the shallow near-shore environment and the moderate offshore area. Four 46' FRVs; Timbalier Bay, Bastian Bay, R.W. Armstrong, Grand Bay. Vessels are located in Venice, Leeville, Lake Charles and Galveston. |
Auto Boom Containment of oil for recovery by skimmer. |
43' Inflatable containment boom, it can be deployed and retrieved rapidly. |
Fast Response Unit Fast response skimming offshore in up to 4' seas in a stationary or advancing mode. |
Fast Response Unit (FRU) are self-contained skimming systems that are deployed from the right side of a vessel of opportunity. |
Marco Shallow Water Skimmer Inland or near shore skimming in a stationary or advancing mode. |
These self-propelled boats have Marco belt skimming systems. The boats are equipped with water spray bars to herd oil into the fiber belt. |
Egmopol Shallow Water Skimmer Inland or near shore skimming in a stationary or advancing mode. |
Self-propelled barge for skimming in harbors, coastal areas, rivers and lakes. |
Rope Mop Skimmer Can be deployed from any boat capable of operating safely in the spill area, utility boats or crew boats. |
The unit will fit into the bed of most pickup trucks, and can be deployed from any boat used in offshore operations. |
Wildlife Rehabilitation Trailer Rehabilitation, care and clean up of contaminated wildlife |
Mobile wildlife rehabilitation and 2 support trailers capable of being rapidly positioned in a wildlife impacted location. Self supporting with bird cleaning stations. |
Bird Scare-A-Way Guns Discourage birds from landing in spilled oil. |
Set of 12 propane-powered noise guns with electric igniters. |
Elastec Hydro Fire Boom Inflatable fire boom used for the deliberate burning of oil on water. |
