46' Skimming Vessel (Grand, Bastian Bay)

Type: 46’ Oil Spill Response Vessel
Primary Use: Nearshore/Offshore

Use: Rapid response oil skimming vessel.

Description: The M/V Bastian Bay and Grand Bay are sister ships to the M/V Timbalier Bay except they have built-in dispersant spray pumping systems, larger fuel tanks, 10 KW generators and improved navigation systems.

The dispersant and seawater pumps are mounted in the engine room and piped to the spray monitor mounted at the stern. The 350-gallon stainless steel dispersant tank is stored in the cargo tank and piped to the dispersant pump. (The dispersant tank is placed on board only when ordered by the customer.) If the on-site situation dictates, it is possible to skim oil with the dispersant tank in the cargo tank. The only effect will be to reduce the usable recovered oil tank volume from 65 to 56 barrels.

The vessels have 925-gallon fuel tanks, which gives them an operating range of 470 miles at a cruse speed of 23 knots (26.5 mph).

Lap top computers with moving map plotter programs are connected to the GPS units on the vessels. The software program provides the computers with the capability of printing a map showing the location (vessel track) where dispersants were applied.

Refer to Timbalier Bay Fact Sheet for Electronics/Communications, Accommodations, Operational Requirements and Components.
