46' M/V RW Armstrong

Type: 46’ Oil Spill Response Vessel
Primary Use: Nearshore/Offshore

Use: Rapid response oil skimming vessel.

Description: The M/V RW Armstrong is a sister ship to the M/V Bastian Bay and Grand Bay.

The dispersant and seawater pumps are mounted in the engine room and piped to the spray monitor mounted at the stem. The 350-gallon stainless steel dispersant tank is stored in the cargo tank and piped to the dispersant pump. (The dispersant tank is placed on board only when ordered by the customer.) If the on-site situation dictates, it is possible to skim oil with the dispersant tank in the cargo tank. The only effect will be to reduce the usable recovered oil tank volume from 65 to 56 barrels.

The vessel has a 925-gallon fuel tank, which gives it an operating range of 470 miles at a cruise speed of 23 knots (26.5 mph).

A Lowrance moving map plotter is installed on the vessel for navigation assistance using DGPS. The software program provides the computer with the capability of printing a map showing the location (vessel track) where dispersants were applied.
